Overview
Al Jamia Arts & Science College sits on a 50-acre eco-friendly campus at Poopalam, Perinthalmanna, awarded an 'A' grade by the Haritha Keralam Mission. This page walks the campus the way a visitor would — from the entrance and the academic blocks through to the laboratories, the library, the sports grounds and the hostels.
The academic blocks
The teaching blocks are open-sided and built into the slope of the site, so corridors look out over the grounds rather than into a light well. Classrooms are ICT-enabled with interactive panels and digital display boards; a public address system and fire and safety measures run throughout.
Laboratories and specialist facilities
Seven teaching laboratories serve the science and computing departments — the Computer Lab, Artificial Intelligence Lab, Food Technology Lab, Micro Biology Lab, Geography Lab, Psychology Lab and Physics Lab. Alongside them sit the specialist facilities the departments have built: the Mushroom Mansion for cultivation and training, a mini weather station, a Geographic Information System suite, a herbal garden and the Nourish Nova New Product Development Zone.
Library and study space
The library occupies several thousand square feet, seats fifty readers at a time, and holds over 5,371 books alongside journals, magazines, CDs, audio-visual aids and e-resources, catalogued on Koha OPAC. A digital library and conference room adjoin it.
Where the campus gathers
The amphitheatre, cut into the slope in tiered stone steps, takes cultural programmes and college assemblies in the open air; the seminar hall seats 200 for conferences and guest lectures; and the cafeteria is where most of the day's informal life happens.
Sport and fitness
The sports ground carries a full football pitch, a badminton court and netted cricket practice wickets. Indoors there is a gymnasium and a yoga centre.
Residences
Separate hostel blocks for men and women students stand within the campus, each with a resident warden, dining and common areas.
