Outreach Awareness Programme by Department of Microbiology

In view of the recent Shigellosis cases reported in Kerala, the Department of Microbiology, Al Jamia Arts & Science College, in association with IQAC, conducted an outreach awareness programme titled “Shield to Shigella” on 11 June 2026 at PTMAUP School, Mulliakurssi.

The programme aimed to educate school students about Shigellosis, its transmission, symptoms, and preventive measures, with special emphasis on proper hand hygiene, safe drinking water, food safety, and sanitation. An interactive awareness session was conducted, followed by a hygiene pledge, where students pledged to practice and promote healthy habits in their daily lives.

The programme successfully enhanced health awareness among students and encouraged them to become ambassadors of hygiene and disease prevention within their families and communities.
